The Underground

I really don't know. :la: But this is like a written adaptation of something hat happened while my team and I were in New York for a convention.

We were coming back from a film session in Greenwich Village (It's beautiful for night filming) and it was somewhere around 3 am.
We decided to head back to the hotel the convention was being held at by subway, and if you've ever been on the subway at night in NY, you know its very deserted. So, we came across this long boarding line with a curved wall on one side, and the exit to ground-level on the other side of the tracks.
So, out of a flash moment of inspiration, we got out the camera (and this is the camera we use for filming professionally), switched around the wigs and costumes to make it look different, and just filmed something of epic.
Thing is, we planned to later put in a song in the background, and not say anything. So, the only sounds from the actual filming you could hear were footsteps and echoes.
Afterwards, I added in some CGI animation for the things that couldn't happen IRL. And it turned out amazing. 'Twas epic.

Anyways, this is a written adaptation of what was filmed. I tried to write it in a format where the names of the people involved in the event are pronouns. See if you can understand it. ;P On top of that, all the objects are not called what they are, but sort of symbolized. Hopefully, you'll understand it.

As a quick sort of explanation, the inspiration behind this was a legatus, or an angel that has taken on a human form who does not know its purpose, and the inspiration behind Her and her little sister were my two epic friends Meghan and Mimi, both of which will probably be replying to this. :meow:

Also, I dare you to guess which of our team members played who.

Hope you enjoy this.

What Our Leader People Have To Say For Themselves:

Kari~ Well... I'm a total anime freak who loves to cosplay. I dress in an urban style, and I'm known for scarves and kitty hats.

Adrian~ I have to ditto Kari on the cosplay bit. I'm a photographer, and I'll probably be uploading some of my works on here sometime if I'm allowed to release them. Among other things, we've been doing major film projects for years now, including the now famed "Untold" series, the more recent "Dreamworld", our own retellings of various anime films, and lots of other things too. :meow:

Mark~ We're all part of the cosplay team WeirdoNation. We have 15 members in total and have been cosplaying together for 9 years now. We've won 34 awards for our cosplays and skits.

Lauren~ The team has cosplayed FMA, Howl's Moving Castle, Akatsuki, various Naruto characters, lots of OCs, *sorry to admit it* Winx Club, almost all of the FF, the entire "Tales of.." series, AC, KH , OHSHC, the Otonin, Trigun, Bleach, Soul Eater, Gundam Wing, almost every single Studio Ghibli film, Vampire Knight, Alice in Wonderland (in various different styles), Buratino, various memes (specifically Anon., Candlejack, Pedobear, Pedopotamus, Desu, Nyoron~, 404 Girl, and a few other FTW ones.), Castlevania, and tons of other things that would take forever to name.

Adrian~ I sew most of the cosplays, but we do buy a few online. :la: We've been to so many conventions, that its impossible to name them all.

Mark~ At least a minimum average of 11 every year. Ochoyocon, Connecticon, AnimeEvolution, AnimeBoston, Metrocon, EnZayCon (in New Zealand) and LondonExpo are the ones that we go to pretty much every year.

Lauren~ This DA page contains our strange and wonderful works of art, fanfictons, novels, and lots of other random tidbits. Most of the writing is Adrian's, and the art is probably either mine or Kari's. :dummy:

Adrian~ So hello world! And let the madness begin!

Kari~ Live Life Abstract! :rose::heart::kiss:

Welcome! Updates! Tra-la-la~

Hey! Welcome to the DeviantART page of WeirdoNation. Yes, its that awesome cosplay team that you keep hearing about at Cons. Woot~ :D

A Notice: Since much of our work is under a contracted agreement with our sponsoring conventions, we wont be able to post up many of our cosplay photos or videos. It'd be against Terms of Service, and we don't want to get sued. :meow:

This account contains most of the collective art, writings, and whatever cosplay bits we can manage to put on of the 15-some members of the WeirdoNation team. Enjoy!~

FYI: These updates will be a weekly thing where we'll be posting up whatever comments already exist on the "Costumes and Prop Refs." section of our faves, and whatever new updates. This is much easier than doing comments. They will be posted from latest update to oldest update, and separated with a line of ^^^'s.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Awesome. More updates. This update should've actually been done a REEEAAAALLLYYY long time ago, but it wasn't. So I'm just going to do it now.
A while back, last year in June, Hannah, myself, and Lauren (Kari was visiting parents in Sweden, so she wasn't with the team when this happened) were invited to an extreme LARP. By definition an extreme LARP must play out on an oppropriate and corresponding environment (part of what makes it extreme), and no situations can be plannned or controled. "What happens: Happens." Now, we'd heard about these before, and were even at one point invited to an extreme LARP in the arctic circle. We got hyped up for it, but the days it was to occur did not fit in with our filming schedule, so we couldn't go. Long story short, we got extremely hyped up over being invited to the LARP in June. They gave us a month for heads-up time (which is the time you get to plan costumes, gather up money for the flight to the meet-up location, and get your story straight) and we just went for it. The basis for the LARP was as follows:
This is Lost Island. You have been abandoned here, be it from a crash, or be it as an escape. You each have a power. This power is your alone. But many of you do not know the full extent of your abilities. Around the island is a barrier of magic. It goes both ways. No-one can get in, no-one can get out. Your mission is to outwit, outsmart, and outlast.
So yeah. The meet-up point was in the tip of Thailand. The meet-up point is the place where all the players must met. Your transportation to the meet up point is not covered by the people who started the LARP. Only the water plane fare, to and back, is covered. From there, all players (which there were about 30 or so of) get rides on water planes to the island, which was just an island somewhere in Indonesia. The water planes took the players to different parts of the island. For 5 days and 6 nights, all players on the island would be left to LARP. On the morning of the 6th day, the players would come to the small wood dock and board their water planes back to the mainland. And that was exactly how it went. But the time we had there, the people we met, and what we LARP'd will stay in memory forever. To this day, that's still on my top three list of LARPs I've ever done, and most others feel the same. We met lots of other players here, and still keep in contact with many of them.
"Darkest Hour" was reference for my character, Solo Fringe. His abiity was flight (otl, done by vine swinging and tree jumping. XD). "water" was reference for Lauren's character, Natalie Alto. If not obvious, her ability was elemental water magic (otl, will not reveal how this was done ;P). "Fire girl" was reference for Hannah's character, Cri Franso. Her ability was elemental fire magic (otl, done with a lighter and lighter fluid. XD)
On another note, can't wait! Next week, its the first premiere of Dreamworld, in London. We really have come a long way. we just can't wait to get back to working on the other films. After the London premiere, we will have one in Stockholm, Toronto, Harajuku, San Fransisco, Miami, Sydney, and in Wellington. Hope to see you there!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Woot woot. Another update.
Alright. "LoT: Rellik Reference" , thank you to exileddelusion for making, is of Kari and mine's LARP tournament characters. Yes, we actually do those. Omg. But this year it was incredibly fun! We spent 7 hours running around Vegas from 3 in the morning to 10. So awesome! :meow: Thank god for coffee.
Also: OperationChristmasFailFest'09 was a huge success! Essentially, we get a list of houses and tons of presents from our local charity, and we go ninja about at night to the houses giving presents to the families on the list. Afterwards we party hop and gather up as many kids from our college as we can, then go to the park, lay down tons of plastic sheets on the hill, wait for the sprinkles to turn on, pour the eggnog on the slide, and just go nuts. Last year we went as Christmas ninja, the year before as elves, and this year... as polar critters. All 15 of us went. Making the costumes was HELL but totally worth it. All of these were made with our body suit technology explain in the post before this. In total, there were 9 penguins, 2 huskies, 2 polar bears, a narwhal, and a walrus. I was a polar bear. We brought cola! XD For our eggnog slide, we had a total of 37 people partying, including ourselves of course. And the looks on the kids faces when we gave them gifts? To say the least... priceless.
WOOHOO!~ The first Dreamworld is being released at the very end of January. Isn't it amazing how far we've come? Well.. Three more films to go! Be seeing some of you at the premiers. ;)
As many of you know, we've been working on KA in Vegas since the end of November, and our schedule at this point looks a little like this:
December: KA (Costuming and Performing)
January: KA (Costuming and Performing)
February 1/2: Traveling for Dreamworld premiers.
February 2/2: KA (Costuming and Performing)
March: O (Costuming and Performing)
April: O (Costuming and Performing)
May: Zumanity ((Costuming *and amen to that*)
June: Filming
July: Filming
August: OMG. WORKING AT THE METROPOLITAN OPERA AS HEAD OF COSTUMING.
September: :uparrow: Ditto
October 1/2: :uparrow: Ditto
Keep tuned for more updates. :iconimhappyplz:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
If you're wondering, "What's with the furries?", I can explain. The furry pics listed were references for the costumes we made for a furry convention. We've been working on a way to get around the whole idea of a full on fur-suit, and we've been using body-suit technology. I'm not giving away details, but instead of having clunky, large, and uncomfortable suits, body-suit technology uses form fitting base, which onto are sewn and threaded in various outer materials, such as fur, feathers, and scales. Tails and ears are sewn in by the hems, and they're anamatronic, btw. Over the body suit itself, can be worn wigs, clothing, and all sorts of things that most average fur-suits wouldn't be able to be fitted properly with. It's pretty cool actually. Anyways, "Masurao Music" is reference for myself, "Summer Bird" for Hannah, "Vanity Thorn" for Kari, "Male Folf Color" for Mark, and "Autumn Squirrel" for Lauren.
We just got to Stockholm about... 20 hours ago. And yes! It's a miracle! We're still ahead of the game on filming scenes! Very good thing.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This should've been posted earlier, but yeah. Anyways. "Comm- A Different Wonderland" is the reference that I used to make *left to right* Mark, Kari's, and my own Halloween costumes. As listed :below:: Twisted Alice in Wonderland. Anyways. Turned out looking smashing, as usual, and after our short break back home for Halloween, we headed off to Munich, afterwards to Berlin, then to London, in turn Wales and , and we arrived in Dublin mere hours ago.
Filming is ahead of schedule, which is a very good thing!~ We've been getting a lot of one-takes, strangely enough. After Dublin, we'll be heading into the depths of Transylvania for a short while to get some filming done in the castle of "Vlad the Impaler". Then to Riga, Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo, Reykjavik, and FINALLY, back home, for a short time though, for we'll be heading into Asia for some filming in Japan, China, Nepal, Taiwan, and going south, to Australia, New Zealand, and Tasmania. Wish us luck~ And we hope to be done with the first part of Dreamworld soon!
On another note, we went to a protest when we were in London with Anonymous and as a sort of joke, we dressed up as memes. I was Candlejack, Mark was Pedobear, Kari was 404 Girl, Hannah was a Mudkip, Lauren was Lolituma (Leekspin Girl, fyi), Mitchell was Billy Mays, James was Picard, Jordan was RaptorJesus, Nancy was Domo, Rachel was Osaka, Tamara was Crocoduck, Franchesca was the Peanut Butter Jelly Time banana, Alissa was The Flying Spaghetti Monster, and Jessica was Desu. EPIC. We even did Longcat rounds. 'Twas awesome. End of story.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
A small update this time. Filming is all on track , FYI. We finished up in Bali on Wednesday, and we took a quick break for Halloween. And we actually did Gothic Alice in Wonderland for the first half of the night, not glowstick people. And yes, our Halloween Squeenix was EPIC.
We're going off to Germany on Monday, then to Wales, the Irish countryside, Britan, Romania *specifically the Transylvania region*, and to a few more places before heading back home.

Anyways.
"Tarnished Wings" is reference for *SPOILER* in his Tenshi form after he gets ' puberty', to put it.
"Upcoming Project- Dream-Land" *made per request* is reference for Raven in his true form. If you remember, Raven's cursed, so his current appearance is only because of the curse. He still has his wings in his true form, but the form of them stays the same, so we decided to not draw them twice. It beats the point of having reference in the first place, really.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Ah. More reference listings.
"Bird Wiwing Poses" and "Side Project: Wing" were both references for the structures of *spoiler* and Raven's wings. Nothing too special there.

On another note, if you're wondering, "Wtf? Axel?" on the latest post, I'll explain.
This year, my team and i are half-breaking cosplay tradition. Normally, we'd spend the whole night partying with other cosplay teams in halloween themed cosplays, but this year, we're spending the first half of the night partying with some of our 'normal'-er friends. So, we're not going to be in cosplay the entire night, but in non-cosplay costumes for the first half.
For example, for the first half, I'm going as a glowstick person. For the second half, I'm going as Halloween Axel, going withour team's theme of Halloween Squeenix. Anyways, "KH-Hallowen Axel" is about as close as it gets to what the cosplay itself looks like.

On another note, my teeth have just been filed and my hair is now cut and dyed the proper color and length for Raven in Dreamworld. Everybody else has made thier changes as well, and we're making good progress with the filming. Though, we probably won't be seeing home for another month or so due to our travels into Japan, Bali, Germany, Romania, and Britan for on-location filming.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
You may or may not have noticed the recent additions, so let me explain. There are night creatures in Dreamworld called Nightmares. Essentially, they're beasts of the night that are almost like the mindless goons. We were planning to CGI them, but we needed references, so we used some references for ideas. we figured we could post the references we found on DA in this category.
"Nightmare-Avika", "Nightmare", "Nightmare creatures", "Amorphous Nightmare", and "Another Nightmare" are all references for the Nightmare beasts.

An another note, the true forms of Jaque and Marsielle are very similar to "the twins", so I posted that up just for the sake of visualization.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
We'll be starting to film the first part tommorow, so everything is on track. Huzzah to that! Though, it's a 172 page script in 10pt font. And it's only the first part! There's three more afterwards you know! (FYI: The film itself will be filmed in four parts. One, two, and three will all end in a logical place to stop in the storyline. The only reason its in four parts is due to the fact that it'd be six to seven hours long otherwise, so we're just releasing it in multiple parts for convenience.)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
HA HA. YES.

All of the costuming for Dreamworld is done! Even all the bits for the extras~

The normal clothes for the girls, their Dreamworld outfits, Raven, Yamire, Gabriel, Jaque, Marsielle, and Agryeb's costumes are all on their proper dummies and stands.
So yay~ Awesome sense of accomplishment right now.

Oh. And it was decided that we would use CGI animation for the false forms of Jaque and Marsielle, because the other options wouldn't be very probable or efficient.

Prop wise, we fixed Raven's pocketwatch, embellished the swords and staffs (ordered all from master craftsmen), and got all the minor things done.

Agryeb's wheelchair is almost complete. We just need to attach the skulls and carve in the back designs, and it'll be done. Good riddance!~

And now we're all worn out from putting so much time and effort into these costumes.~

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
~phew~ Finally got something posted up so you can get an idea of our films in terms of costuming. Well, since all the ones that are up right now are out of Dreamworld, I'll start there.

Note: No costuming references out of Untold will be posted here. We're not allowed to post up anything about Untold concerning visuals. (Eg. photos of props, actors, and sets, any footage of actual scenes or sequences, references for costuming and design, etc., yada-yada. ) Sorry!

Keep in mind! Hair color has nothing to do with anything. It's only the overall styles and outfits. I was only using these as reference for when I actually made the real thing.

The brown haired girl on the very left of "4 Girls-Art Trade with Refri" is Dani.

The blue haired girl to her right is Janet.

The girl to Janet's right is Alexis. (Actually w/ blonde hair.)

"Starry Night" is Dani's Dreamworld outfit.

"a thief" is the basis for Janet's Dreamworld outfit.

"OC-Jael color- costume ref" is Alexis's Dreamworld outfit.

"The Flaming Prince" is a sort of basis for Yamire.

The "Skeletal Wheelchair" belongs to Agreyb. (Yes. We are actually going to build something like that. Woop~de~flippin~do.)

"Raven Reference Sheet" is...well.. for Raven. (Duh.)

"Wings of Time" is Raven's pocketwatch. (We actually have something exactly like that.)

The only characters not pictured here that are main to Dreamworld are Gabriel, Jaque, Marsielle, and Agryeb. The costuming on them was freelance and had no outside reference.

Anyways. Progress thus far::

The normal clothing for all three of the girls is done.

Dani's Dreamworld outfit is done. (Though, Kari's still working on the flower bracelet. Should be done by the end of the day today. No biggie.)

Mitchell and James are working on the details of the wheelchair as we speak. The frame itself is being made on order by a master craftsman.

The armored parts of Yamire's costume just arrived yesterday, and the cape is done.

Raven's costume is en progress. I've got the coat, cravat, and wings done. (Yes, the wings. *gaspe for air like a fish out of water* Structurally, they were even more hell than Deidara's Angel of Death wings. )

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
